an unplanned stop

We have one big fan of our blog and I have heard (from my mom) that she would love to hear about our recent trip to Minnesota. So, because you want to know, here' s the story.

On our way back to The Islands we did make an unscheduled stop in the far northern reaches of America. We got stuck in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the coldest place on Earth.

We landed in this snowy northern town to discover sub-zero temperatures and snow. We were supposed to be landing somewhere hot! We didn’t have coats, we didn’t have gloves, at least we were wearing shoes…

Okay, so that’s not Minneapolis, that is actually some mountains somewhere near the Arctic Circle. I guess there are some advantages to taking flights lasting more than 12 hours.

So, back to Minneapolis…evidently the plane that was supposed to take us to Tokyo was struck by lightning so we were able to enjoy one wonderful night in the La Quinta Inn courtesy of Northwest Airlines. Of course, we had to go to the famous Mall of America.

I have to say I wasn’t that impressed. I mean, it was big and it was a mall and it was American. But dare I say it was a little too big, especially when you only have 2 hours to see the whole thing and you are 13 weeks pregnant thinking you might drop at any moment from sheer exhaustion and nausea.

Don’t worry, we still enjoyed our little unplanned pit stop. Roger got some new shoes, I got a new Belly Band and we had one more opportunity to eat at Subway.

Overall it was a nice little stop. We got some free food, some vouchers for free airline tickets and got to see one of those places that you always read about in the Northwest airplane magazine.
