Last weekend we were invited to attend a party the Thai Consulate was throwing for the King of Thailand's birthday. We were very excited to be invited to this event, we were able to make some new friends and even meet the Thai Vice Consul of Vancouver.
The dress code was "polite or Thai dress" and we really didn't know what this meant. We decided that it would be better to be over-dressed than under-dressed, so I got a new dress and Roger unpacked his suit.
Our biggest adventure of the night involved our transportation to the party. The party was downtown and Asher needed to go to our friends house before we went to the party.
Normally (with a car) this would just involve leaving a little early. Since we had to take into account weekend bus schedules and traveling across a major city we had to leave about 3 hours before the party started. We took the 112 Bus to our friends house, dropped off Asher, got back on the 112 Bus to go to a SkyTrain station, took the train downtown, walked a few blocks and then got on the 5 bus to go to the party. It was freezing (literally), I was wearing hose and a short dress and by the time we made it to the party I could barely feel my legs. Luckily on the way home we got a ride from our friends and didn't have to get Asher back out in the cold.
During the party we were able to see some traditional Thai dances, eat some wonderful food and make some new friends. It was a wonderful evening and I am so glad we were invited to the party.
